History

The Good Neighbour Club held its first meeting October, 1948 in the trailer of Mrs. Gates. It initially included residents in the 2-mile Crossing area. Founding members were: Myrtle Dingman (first president), Marion Gates, Agnes Roberts, Grace Bolton, Astned Elliot, Ida Teece, Minnie Kent, Audrey Murphy, Louise McKay and Kay Penner. Later members included Lois Roberts, Anna Bailey, Lillian McQueen, Beryl Wamboldt, Eva Simard, Merle Armstrong, Bertha Gillies, and Bertha Danbrook. they held luncheon meetings with a social program, and they undertook work for the community, particularly the Red Cross and the hospital.
