    Administrative history

The society was incorporated in 1998 with the intent to preserve the designated National Historic Site that was situated at 7000 No. 9 Road, Richmond. The Barn was constructed in 1893 by salmon canning pioneer Alexander Ewen and was also known locally as the Keur Barn. Unfortunately the barn collapsed in a storm in November 1998 and the barn was salvaged for use in other city projects.

    Custodial history

Prior to their transfer to the Archives in 2006, the records were in the custody of Graham Turnbull, a director of the Society and, Chair of the Richmond Heritage Commission at the time of donation.
