Biographical history
Frederick Victor Longstaff was born in Surrey, England, and came to Victoria, B.C., in 1911. He was prominent in the Victoria community as an architect and author. He assisted in the design of St. John's Anglican Church and the James Bay Anglican Hall, and wrote a history of Christ Church Cathedral. A major in the army, Longstaff also wrote histories of HMCS Naden and Esquimalt Harbour, and was associated with the Maritime Museum at Signal Hill. He was a recognized authority on the Royal Navy and the Royal Canadian Navy.

The fonds consists of photographs of HMC and HM ships, Commander Hose, sealing schooners and other ships and views. Fonds includes articles written by Longstaff and newsclippings.
