Biographical history

The 'Enderby Free Press' started in March of 1994. It was owned and published by Pat Holman with Ann Harvey as editor and reporter. It was originally circulated free to Enderby, Grindrod, Mara, South Salmon Arm, and North and Central Armstrong. In May the paper was renamed 'Fortune Valley Free Press' after a contest for a better name for the newspaper was run. The contest winner, Doris Smaha, picked the name because, "Fortune Creek runs through much of the area covered by your newspaper ... another reason being this valley has ... fortune, success in general." (FVFP, 5/2/94). The last issue of the newpaper was December 19, 1994. In June 1995 new owner and publisher Dick Robinson published the newspaper with Ann Harvey continuing as editior and reported. It folded 10 weeks later due to, "the investment proving more costly and slower in providing and indication of future profitability then he (Dick Robinson) had expected."(FVFP, 8/16/95). Sally Scales, owner of the Salmon Arm 'Shoppers' Guide', later known as the 'Lakeshore News', purchased the newspaper and amalgamated it with her own.
