History
Francis Richard C. Brown grew up in Derbyshire, England and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Edinburgh University in April 1910. He left England and came to Prince Rupert, arriving in May 1910. He spent a year prospecting to familiarize himself with minerals in the area and in 1911 became the partner of H.F. McRae in the brokerage business. Lily Spencer arrived in Prince Rupert from London, England in July 1911 and soon opened her own public accountant business. She met Francis in Prince Rupert and married him on October 8, 1912 in Vancouver. The couple had one daughter, Margaret, born in Prince Rupert in 1914. The Brown family left Prince Rupert in November 1917 when Francis accepted a position with the Allies Emergency Fleet in Texas.
