Biographical history
The Enderby Recreation Commission was established by By-law No. 534 of Enderby City Council on August 25, 1958. The By-law was amended October 9, 1979. The mission statement of the Enderby Recreation Commission is "to support leisure opportunities within our community by encouraging recreational organizations and activities. Our areas of emphasis are communication and public relations, coordinating existing community groups and recruitment of volunteers." Over the years the commission has organized events such as Seniors' Variety Nights, Skatathons, Canada Day celebrations, fish derbies, Jam Can Bonspiels, air band contests, art shows, pony clubs, Easter celebrations, Breakfast with Santa, and summer youth programs. They have donated funds towards hockey tournaments, ball teams, soccer teams, babysitting courses, kayaking lessons, youth dances, figure skating, tennis nets, basketball hoops, hockey teams, skating clubs, youth concert bands, B.C. Rivers Day celebrations, and an annual scholarship for a graduating student. The commission is funded by grants from the Recreation and Sports Branch of British Columbia and the North Okanagan Regional District.
