Ellesmere United Church began as a Presbyterian congregation in Burnaby, although the founding dates are unknown. Known first and interchangeably as Capitol Hill United, a church building was erected in 1930. From 1930 to 1946 Ellesmere, together with Cliff Avenue and Douglas Road United congregations, constituted the Capitol Hill Pastoral Charge in Westminster Presbytery. From 1946 to 1956 Ellesmere was a separate charge and from 1956 to 1963 it constituted with Westridge United, Ellesmere-Westridge Pastoral Charge. It later became part of the Ellesmere-Willingdon Heights Pastoral Charge (1994-2004). From 1963 until 1994 and from 2004 to 2014, it constituted a single point charge. Ellesmere United Church disbanded in 2014.
