    Administrative history

    The Delta Symphony Society formed in July, 1971, in order to provide sponsorship to the Delta Youth Orchestra, which was established in September, 1971. The Society is responsible for administering the Orchestra, which is intended to provide young people with professional training in the orchestral disciplines. The Society is a registered non-profit organization run by a board of directors. The Orchestra's first music director was Harry Gomez, who, with founding president Fred Preuss, spearheaded the formation of the Society.

    The fonds consists of one series of scrapbooks comprised of correspondence, newspaper clippings, promotional materials, album covers, press releases, pamphlets and photographs. The scrapbooks are organized chronologically, documenting the annual activities and achievements of the Delta Youth Orchestra.
