Administrative history
The Christian Education Coordinator position was created in 1984 as a part-time job shared by two-people. The position was originally funded as a three year contract under the Anglicans in Mission (A.I.M.) fundraising initiative. This national initiative was devised to raise money and awareness for the Anglican Church. Money raised were shared between the national church and the diocese. After the campaign came to an end, funding for the position continued to be generated through the pilot project of Stewards in Action sustained mainly by several churches. At the position's conception, the main Christian education needs were identified as follows: adult education, recruitment and training of individuals for skilled leadership at the parish level. In order to address those needs, the coordinator held numerous workshops and conferences. Margaret Jonsson, Christian Education Coordinator from 1984 until her resignation in 1991, established the Christian Discipleship Program to provide theological education for adult lay people. In order to further the scope of Christian education programme, she also created the Children's festivals and Programs and a Diocesan Resource Centre. The Christian Education Coordinator reported to the Christian Education Unit Committee and the Diocesan Programme Committee. The Christian Education Coordinator position was renamed as Christian Formation Consultant.
