Biographical history
Charles Desmond Doyle was born in Birmingham, England, and obtained a B.A. and M.A. from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. He taught at Victoria University and the University of Auckland during the late 1950s and early 1960s, and was Visiting Fellow in American Studies at Yale University in 1967-1968. In 1968 he was appointed Associate Professor of English at the University of Victoria. He publishes under the name Charles Doyle and Mike Doyle. He published a number of volumes of poetry and literary criticism, including "Richard Aldington: a Biography (1989).

The fonds consists of manuscripts of poetry, 1969-74; research files relating to Richard Aldington (including copies of Aldington correspondence), 1912-86; research files relating to James K. Baxter, a New Zealand poet, 1968-76; correspondence with publishers, 1964-79; UVic course notes, 1981-1988; files of the Committee on Alternatives for British Columbia, 1983-85; and files of the UVic End the Arms Race Committee, 1983-86.
