Biographical history
The Delta Hospital Auxiliary was formed in 1969 as a fund-raising organization supporting and campaigning for the establishment of a hospital in Delta. The Auxiliary membership was divided into chapters based in Ladner and Tsawwassen. Until the Delta Hospital's Extended Care Unit opened in 1977, the chapters focussed almost exclusively on fundraising activities such as books sales, bake sales, fashion shows, and flea markets. The success of the flea markets led to the establishment of the Delta Hosptial Auxiliary Thrift Shop in 1976. When the Acute Care Unit opened in 1980, the Auxiliary reorganized in order to accommodate function changes initiated by the existence of the Hospital. Chapters were dissolved in favour of four committees: the Gift Shop; Hospital Volunteers; Thrift Shop; and Ways and Means. The Auxiliary reports to the Delta Hospital Board of Trustees.
