Canadian Collieries (Dunsmuir) Ltd. operated coal mines on Vancouver Island, including the Wellington Mines near Nanaimo and the Comox Mines at Cumberland. The Comox Mines had earlier been operated by Union Colliery Company, the first of the mines being opened in 1888. The last of the Comox Mines, the No.8 Mine, was closed in 1953.

Fonds consists of records related to the administration and operations of Canadian Collieries (Dunsmuir) Ltd and its successor Canadian Collieries Resources Ltd. Fonds is arranged in the following series: 1) Annual reports; 2) Reports; 3) Letters of agreement; 4) Office vouchers; 5) Maps; 6) Employment records; 7) Union Bay records and 8) Miscellaneous.
The office vouchers, expense statements and Union Bay records were donated to the Nanaimo District Museum in undocumented transactions. The microfiche was donated to the Archives in an undocumented transaction. Employment bulletins and booklet were donated to the Archives in 1999 by Bob MacDougall. The remainder of the records were donated to the Nanaimo Community Archives in 1992 by R.S. Isaacson. His father, S.V. Isaacson, was Vice-President of Finance of Canadian Collieries Resources Ltd.
