        History

In 1880 the Victoria and Esquimalt Telephone Company was granted its charter. On the mainland, the New Westminster and Port Moody Telephone Company (later the New Westminster and Burrard Inlet Telephone Company) was granted its charter in 1884. Other companies were created throughout the province, and in 1905 the various telephone companies amalgamated to form the British Columbia Telephone Company.
