Biographical history
Born in Ireland December 6, 1846, W. Norman Bole came to New Westminster in March 1877 and was called to the bar of British Columbian that same year. He was the first lawyer to permanently settle in New Westminster and quickly became a member of the BC legislature and the first police magistrate. He married Florence Blanchard and had two children: Garnet Seymour (died at age 12 in 1895) and J.P. Hampton Bole. He died in 1923. J.P. Hampton, born January 23, 1882, followed in his footsteps, becoming a lawyer and later a magistrate. J.P. was very active in local affairs and was Grand Historian for the Native Sons of B.C. He married Evelyn Brown and they had two daughters: Norma and Florence. J.P. died in 1966.
Custodial history
The records were donated in 1966 by Mrs. Norman Hampton Bole. The original list of donated items does not completely match the current set of records. Photographs of City Band members were found with these records but are not listed on the accession record and were in an envelope stamped E.M. Cotton.These photos have been added to the general photograph collection but are not yet processed.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of records of the Bole family. The fonds has the following series: professional records, family records, historical records, maps, ephemera, and publications.
