    Biographical history

Hubert Weyman Blenkinsop was born in England in the 1890s and came to Canada ca. 1908. After a period spent working on a ranch in the Chilco region of British Columbia, Hubert joined the military and served overseas in World War I. Following his return, Hubert married Winsome Hazel Neroutsos in 1919. The newlyweds then moved to the interior of B.C. before returning to Victoria about 1928. While in Victoria, Hubert worked as a salesman for a variety of firms. The Blenkinsops had one child, Edward, in 1920. Edward "Teddy" Blenkinsop joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1939 and served as a pilot in Europe until his death in 1945 at the Belsen Concentration Camp.

    Custodial history

    Scope and content

The fonds consists of photographs and one recognition form recognizing service in the Canadian expeditionary forces in World War I. The majority of the photographs are stored in photo albums and document Hubert Blenkinsop's early life in England, his time spent on a farm in the Chilco region of British Columbia, his service in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in World War I, and his married life and family. Later volumes of the photo albums were presumably compiled by Winsome Blenkinsop and document holidays, vacations, places of residence, parades, buildings and construction sites in Victoria.
