    Biographical history

    James Berney (1867-1952) and his wife Sara Jane Berney (1877-1960) moved from Ontario to Delta (Canoe Pass)in the last decade of the 1800s. James worked at the cannery at Canoe Pass and was appointed in 1910 as the bridge tender for the new Westham Island (Canoe Pass) bridge. James and Sara had five children: Gertrude (1896-1948), Clarence (1897-1957), Ralph (1904-?), Clifford (1907-1995), and Harley (1914-). James and Sara moved to Chilliwack in 1931. Gertrude married Richard Macauley of Vancouver in 1923 in Ladner. Clifford married Margaret Arthur of Ladner in 1936 and stayed to farm in Delta.

    The fonds consists of a family photograph album belonging to Gertrude Berney, photographs of the dedication of the cenotaph (1921), and photographs given to Harley Berney by Frank Beadleson.
