The Belfry Theatre was established in 1975 by the Springridge Cultural Society. The name changed to the Belfry Theatre Society in 1981. It began producing its own shows in 1976/1977, and by the end of the 1977/1978 season had become a full-fledged professional theatre company. The Theatre is housed in the formed Emmanuel Baptist Church in Victoria, B.C.
