        History

The development of an interurban streetcar line from Vancouver to New Westminster gave rise to the Beaconsfield community in the early years of the twentieth century. This community development resulted in Beaconsfield Methodist Church, which was founded in 1911. With the coming of church union in 1925, Beaconsfield Methodist Church became Beaconsfield United Church. By 1959, the congregation had grown and required a new and larger building. A new church was built across the lane from the original building, and was dedicated on March 5th 1961. In 1992, Beaconsfield United Church closed. Beaconsfield Methodist Church was part of the Vancouver West District (1911-1925). Beaconsfield United Church was a part of Vancouver East Presbytery (1925-1926), Vancouver Presbytery (1926-1959) and Vancouver-South Presbytery (1959-1992).
