Administrative history

The Vernon branch of the Bank of Montreal was opened December 1, 1892 in the Schubert block near the CPR station. The bank shared the ground floor with a real estate firm, and the original staff of three lived above the bank office. At the time, the bank served the whole of what is now the Okanagan, Similkameen, and Grand Forks electoral districts. The first manager was G.A. Henderson, who remained in that position from 1892 to 1923. In 1894, the bank moved to 3200 30th Avenue. In 1902, the bank had a residence built for Mr. Henderson by the Victoria firm of George C. Mesher and Co., with Samuel McClure as architect. In 1910, a new bank building was erected at 3200 30th Avenue. Major alterations to that building were completed in 1952. A third building arose on the site in the early 1970's.
