        History

Religious services began in Bamfield in 1925. During this time the community was a point on the Westcoast Marine Mission. The mission served various small communities along the Westcoast of Vancouver Island in a vessel called the Broadcaster and then in 1929, in the Melvin Swartout. In 1941 the Westcoast Marine Mission was closed temporarily pending the location of a suitable missionary to take up the work. In 1953, missionary work resumed along the Westcoast of Vancouver Island. At this time the Westcoast Marine Mission was based in Bamfield. The Bamfield United Church congregation was officially formed in 1962.
