    Name of creator

    Biographical history

    George James Bagshaw was born in Kent, England, and moved to Victoria about 1891. Bagshaw and his wife Ellen had a total of five children before their deaths in 1931 and 1938 respectively. Bagshaw worked as a gardener in George J. Bagshaw and Son, a company he operated with his son Ralph. Captain Andrew Slater was born in the Shetland Islands and came to Victoria ca. 1905. Slater worked as a ship's officer and seaman. Slater and his wife Jessie had a total of four children. Andrew Slater died in 1929 and Jessie died in 1941. Arthur L. Bagshaw, the son of Ralph and Bertha Bagshaw, and Grace M.C. Slater, the daughter of Andrew and Jessie Slater were married in 1931. Both worked as school teachers in the Victoria region.

    The fonds consists of photographs of the various members of the Bagshaw family (including Arthur L. Bagshaw), their occupations, visits to various local parks and beaches, and images of floatplanes in the Inner Harbour of Victoria.
