              The material in the Robert Smithson Collection consists of items collected by the late Vancouver writer and filmmaker Dennis Wheeler. All the material is related to Wheeler’s association with the noted American artist Robert Smithson.               The fonds consists of Schroeder's literary manuscripts, radio plays, filmscripts, manuscripts by others, personal correspondence, financial records, and printed material which chronicle his development and contributions as a writer, journalist, broadcaster, editor, translator, and literary/cultural activist. Included among the subjects documented in the papers are: Schroeder's published and unpublished fiction and nonfiction works, including short prose, novellas, poems, translations, a prison memoir, literary columns, and feature articles; production of documentaries for the CBC radio show "Ideas"; publication of the literary magazine of translation "Contemporary Literature in Translation"; the author's nine-month prison sojurn; the founding of the League of Canadian Poets and the Writers' Union of Canada; and, the establishment of the Public Lending Rights Commission of Canada.

Within the fonds there are versions of the manuscript; various essays written by Donald Waite about British Columbian history; photocopies of photographs of persons connected to Langley; a bound copy of the 1937 thesis by John Edgar Gibbard entitled Early History of the Lower Fraser Valley; and research notes which include transcriptions of vital records from parish registers, genealogies for families connected to Langley, and correspondence to and from Donald Waite regarding the research and writing of The Langley Story. Note: within the research notes, there are three bound copies that are indexed by Donald Waite.
