History

Ashlar Lodge No. 3 was formed in 1873 when Nanaimo Lodge, A.F. and A. M. (formed 1867), united with Caledonian Lodge. The cornerstone of the original Masonic Hall was laid in 1873 at the corner of Commercial and Skinner Streets. This was the first masonic cornerstone laid by the Grand Lodge of British Columbia. A new Masonic Temple was built in 1923 on this site at 101-103 Commercial Street.
