Biographical history
The first meeting of the then-named Grosvenor Road and District VON Auxiliary was held in August, 1947. On April 5, 1948, the organization changed its name to the Whalley Auxiliary Community Guild and again in 1949 to the Whalley Ladies Community Guild. The initial purpose of the organization was to assist the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON), which included helping with Baby Clinics and Red Cross blood donor clinics. From 1949 to 1970, after the implementation of a new constitution and set of bylaws, the Guild became involved with the Community Association of Surrey and allocated the profits from its fund-raising projects to a variety of community groups. In 1970 the Guild was disbanded.
