United Church activity in Golden began with the establishment of a Presbyterian field at Donald in 1886, which at the time was a centre for railroad building activity for the Canadian Pacific Railway. The church built at Donald was called St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and in 1902 this building was moved to Field where it was renamed by the congregation there, St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church. In 1896 a church was also opened in Golden, also named St. Andrew's -- by the later 1890's the focus of Presbyterian work shifted from Donald to Golden with the shift in economic activity as well. In 1918 the Golden and Field charges were combined into one and entered union in 1925 to become the Golden-Field Pastoral Charge. The charge used to include smaller preaching points. In 1986 St. Stephen's United in Field was closed leaving St. Andrew's United in Golden in the current Golden Pastoral Charge in Kamloops-Okanagan Presbytery. Methodist activity began in Golden in 1896 followed by the erection of Grace Methodist Church in 1902. Grace entered union in 1925 as Grace United Church, but in 1926 amalgamated with St. Andrew's United Church, forming a new congregation under the latter's name.
