Biographical history

The Service, Office and Retail Workers Union of Canada emerged out of the women's movement in British Columbia. It was formally established in 1972 and its members sought to organize in those occupations primarily staffed by women. Local No. 4 was originally founded as Local 2 of SORWUC in 1972 and became part of the United Bank Workers Section of SORWUC in 1976. In 1981 the Local was chartered as Service, Office and Retail Workers Union of Canada, Local No. 4, Bank and Finance Workers.
