Biographical history
The Service, Office and Retail Workers Union of Canada was founded as a predominantly female union in British Columbia in 1972. It targetted office, restaurant and bank workers achieving some success. It gained local notoriety in 1978 as the union behind the controversial Muckamuck Restaurant workers' strike which lasted two years. SORWUC took a very active interest in all feminist issues, as is reflected in the fonds. The union disbanded in 1986.

The fonds consists of office files, printed material, photographs, and incoming and outgoing correspondence on union activities with a variety of organizations, including correspondence specifically concerned with organizations such as Distacom Ltd., Bobolink Daycare, Muckamuck Restaurant, and the Kwantlen College Students Association, where SORWUC was certified.
