Biographical history

Hugh and George Rose immigrated from Scotland in the late 1880s. Hugh and George Rose were agriculturalists in the Benvoulin area of Kelowna. They owned Rose Brothers Fruit and Hop Growers. Hugh Rose was a B.C. police officer and Police Constable. In 1905 George Rose purchased the Kelowna Clarion and changed the newspaper's name to the Kelowna Courier and Okanagan Orchardist. He was the publisher of the newspaper from 1905-1938. He was also a founding member of the Agricultural and Trades Association of the Okanagan Mission Valley.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of a personal and farming diary, receipts, university graduation cards and a sketch. Daily handwritten journal entries recount the work in the orchards, the weather, social life and sports in the Benvoulin area. Fonds also includes business correspondence of the Kelowna Courier and Okanagan Orchardist newspaper. Includes a letter from Lord Aberdeen at Coldstream Ranch.
