Francis Xavier Richter (1837-1910) was born in Bohemia and emigrated to North America in 1853. He landed at Galveston, Texas but lured by the silver mines of the West, Richter worked his way west and north arriving in the Similkameen area in 1864 where he began ranching and later, growing fruit (1880). After the death of his first wife, Lucy, Richter married Florence Elizabeth Loudon in 1904. Richter died in 1910 and his holdings became the Richter Estate. Several years later, Richter's widow married Haliburton Tweddle.
