Biographical history
The Japanese Methodist mission in Kelowna began in 1920, and a church was erected in 1922. The Japanese population in the Kelowna area subsequently grew, particularly during the war years. The Church continues to serve the Japanese community in Kelowna in association with First United Church. While the Okanagan Japanese Pastoral Charge has included several preaching points over the years, in Greenwood, Midway, Nakusp, New Denver, Slocan, Summerland, Vernon and Westbank, at present the Pastoral Charge consists only of Kelowna and Greenwood-Midway.
