Alderwoman Gertrude "Gertie" Todd served on the City of North Vancouver Council from 1971 to 1973. She had been a North Shore resident for thirty years, and had operated Orchid Florists at 1804 Lonsdale Ave. for 20. Her background also included running the Vancouver Spring Carnival Queen contest in 1965 and 1966, Presidency of the Lonsdale Merchants' Association, first female member of the Executive Council of the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce in 1964, and President of the North Shore Arts Council from 1969 to 1971. She also won the grand award in 1965 for her Orchid Florist float. At the time of her election she was the mother of one son, with two grandchildren.
