Records management and collecting policies
The Archives collects records related to the history, growth and development of the City of New Westminster. The holdings consist of both records created by the municipal government, such as City Council minutes, annual reports, maps and blueprints, correspondence, and more. The holdings also include records created by individuals, families, businesses, and organizations. There is a photograph collection of approximately 20,000 images. There is also reference material available in the reading room such as transcriptions of water connection records, an index of obituary notices, and cemetery burials. There are over 4,000 thousand names in the “people files,” which are organized by surname. There is also a collection of building files organized by address. These two sets of files contain a variety of information useful for researching people or places. The Archives also has a collection of pamphlets and a reference library.
