Biographical history

Nanaimo Post No. 3 of the Native Sons of B.C. existed to "promote the memory of pioneers, and to unite all worthy sons of British Columbia". Membership was open to every male person who was born in B.C. and had resided in the province for over 40 years. The Nanaimo Native Sons are credited with rescuing Nanaimo's Bastion, and operated it as a museum for many years.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of minutes (1900-1966), financial records (1900-1968), Bastion guest books (1923-1978), records of attendance (1949-1964), subject files (1906-1977), Honeymoon Book (1953-1963), and oral interview tapes. Subject files include accounts, correspondence, minutes, 1913 constitution, resolutions, inventory of artifacts, photographs of the 1974 move of the Bastion to the present location, and ephemera.
