The Food Conservation Committee was formed to consider the best way to use vacant and unused land in the City for food production. Mayor McKenzie and Aldermen Ferguson, Busby, Barnes, Sharp, Forrester and Morton attended the formative meeting. Representatives of the I.O.D.E. (Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire), the Next of Kin Association and, at the second meeting, the Red Cross Society also attended. By the second and last meeting, the Committee's named had changed from the Food Conservation Committee to the Food Conservation and Increased Food Production Committee.
