Mount Shannon United Church had its beginnings as a Sunday School in the suburbs of Chilliwack in 1960. The Sunday School met at the little Mountain School with the support of some members of Chilliwack United Church. A Building Committee was formed and began meeting in April 1961. They drew up plans and volunteers built the church over the summer. By September, the facility was ready for Sunday School and church services. By October, a student minister began leading services. A worship service constituting the congregation was held at the church under the auspices of Fraser Presbytery on October 22, 1961. The building was dedicated at a service a month later on November 5, 1961. In 1995, the building was moved to a new property. A celebration and re-dedication of Mount Shannon United Church was held on June 18, 1995. Mount Shannon United Church began its life as a one point Pastoral Charge, but from 1963 to 1968, it was part of the Sumas Pastoral Charge. It was part of the Chilliwack Pastoral Charge until 1973. Since then, Mount Shannon has remained a one point Pastoral Charge.
