History
Arthur George (Art) Kent was born in Ontario in 1908. He married Annie G. McKay of Lytton in 1956, and he died in 1979. He was Assistant Forest Ranger for the Lytton area from 1941 to 1969, when he retired. Before joining the Forestry, he and Sandy McKay were partners in a 2-man sawmill near the McKay Ranch. Art was also a heavy-equipment operator and a logger. He loved the outdoors, i.e., hiking, hunting, horseback riding, and was an avid rock hound. During World War II, Art was a Ground Observer for the RCAF. He was also in the Pacific Coast Rangers from 1942 to 1945. Art was a close friend of J.B. Brown and they went on many prospecting trips together. When J.B. Brown died, Art was in possession of his trunks, and was instructed to dispose of the contents however he saw fit. The J.B. Brown fonds (MS 23) came from these trunks. Mr. Kent was also instrumental in securing the famous "Jade Saddle" made by Pete White, for display in the Lytton Elementary School. Most of the jade encrusting this saddle came from the Lytton area.
