<biogHist><p>Thomas Kennedy (1866-1958) was one of seven children of Samuel and Louisa Kennedy. He was born in New Brunswick, but after a short time in Ontario moved in 1893 to B.C., and the following year to North Vancouver. Apart from 3 1/2 years spent prospecting for gold in the Yukon, he lived in North Vancouver until his death in 1958. In 1911 he married Miss Mary Muriel Bartram, and they had two children, Everett and Janet. He was also a member of the North Vancouver Lodge No. 40 of the Knights of Pythias. Following his arrival in North Vancouver, Kennedy went into the lumbering and contracting business with P.A. Aikin. He built most of the early roads throughout the area, and the first ferry float at the foot of Lonsdale. Prior to World War I he went into the real estate business with Askew, and made and lost a fortune of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. After the war he went back into the lumber business. He was also an early chief of the North Vancouver volunteer fire brigade and served on the City Council for a number of years. While on council he was responsible for setting aside a lake northwest of Upper Lynn Valley as a potential water supply. The lake is now named Kennedy Lake. An energetic and restless person throughout his life, he made his last prospecting trip at the age of 86.</p></biogHist>
