Dennison, John David, 1929-

Biographical history

John Dennison received his B.A. (1954) and M.A. (1960) in Physical Education from the University of British Columbia. After a year at the University of Manitoba, he returned to teach at UBC in 1962 and earned his doctorate in Education from Washington State University in 1967. Dennison participated in over sixty research studies on various aspects of community colleges and also authored more than fifty articles and three books.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of a variety of research material, including reports (published and unpublished), minutes, papers, and notes relating to the development of community colleges and adult education in British Columbia (1962-1980), including materials relating to Selkirk, Douglas, Capilano, and Okanagan Colleges. Also included are studies, notes and papers related to Dennison's involvement with the Capilano College Council (1969-1973), and a first draft of UBC President John D. Macdonald's "Report on Higher Education in British Columbia".

Immediate source of acquisition

The bulk of the materials were received by the University Archives in 1985. The draft of the "Macdonald Report" was donated by Dr. Dennison in April 2004.
