Elder, Jean, 1930-

Biographical history

Jean Elder was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, and earned her B.A. from the University of Toronto (1953) and her Ph.D. from Bryn Mawr (1964). She joined UBC's Department of History in 1964, where she specializes in Medieval History. Dr. Elder has been involved in a number of organizations, including the University Senate and several University committees, the Historical Association (Vancouver Branch), and the Academic Women's Association.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of correspondence and other records relating to the activities of the University Senate, the President's Ad Hoc Committee on Sexual Harassment, the Faculty Association's Status of Women Committee, and the Historical Association (Vancouver Branch). There are also a limited amount of records pertaining to the Academic Women's Association, the Archival Studies Committee, and several other University bodies, as well as the granting of an honourary degree to Expo 86 Commissioner Jimmy Pattison.
