        James Dennis (Denny) Allen was born December 26, 1880 in Hertford Heath, Hertfordshire England and came to Canada in 1904. He settled in Prince Rupert in 1907 and owned a photography and stationery business, J.D. Allen Photographic Company. His was one of the first business enterprises to capture scenes of early Prince Rupert in his line of picture postcards. Allen enlisted in the First World War with the 68th Light Infantry in Victoria on November 10, 1914, and served overseas. He was married in 1918 and after the war he was proprietor of the Denny Allen Company until he moved south in 1949. Denny and his wife Rosa Castles Allen, born January 25, 1883 in Folkstone, Kent, England, had three children: John Peter, Ronald James, and Lisbeth Allen. Denny died in Saanich, BC on May 21, 1966 at age 85 and Rosa died on August 31, 1972 at age 89.
