History

Clarence Burpee Hume was born in New Brunswick in 1867. His wife, Emily Jane (nee Jones) Hume was born in Worchestershire, England. C.B. Hume came to Revelstoke in 1889 to work in the general store of his cousin, J. Fred Hume. In 1892, he bought out J. Fred Humes stock and entered into a partnership with A.N. Smith and C.F. Lindmark. He acted as manager of C.B. Hume Department Store from 1892 until 1936. He also had mining, timber and other business interests and served as a city alderman, and a member of the hospital board and school board and the YMCA board of directors. He died in May of 1937.
