History
Neal Harlow was born in Columbus, Indiana. He came to UBC as University Librarian in 1951, after serving in several positions at UCLA Library since 1945. His book "The Maps of San Francisco Bay" was published in 1950, immediately prior to his arrival at UBC. Harlow's tenure at UBC coincided with a period of considerable growth for the Library, including the building of the south wing of Main Library. He resigned in 1961 to become Dean of the Graduate School of Library Service at Rutgers University.
