Biographical history

Fritz (Fred) Wolf was born in Liebau in Silesia, Germany, in 1907. He served a four-year apprenticeship as blacksmith, iron construction and ornamental worker, then worked for five years in different shops in Germany before immigrating to Canada in 1930. In 1936 he moved to Grindrod from Alberta and purchased the Grindrod Blacksmith Shop from John Hull in 1936. He was the "Village Blacksmith" from 1936 until 1985, and worked as a millwright in various mills, including Grindrod Lumber and Riverside Sawmill, to supplement his income. Wolf died February 14, 1985.
