Biographical history

George Hills was Anglican Bishop of New Caledonia.

Custodial history

Initially in the custody of Rev. William Percival Arden, a relative of Bishop Hills, the diaries were loaned to H. P. K. (Horace) Skipton (1909), an English journalist, for the purpose of writing and publishing an official biography of Hills under the auspices of the British Columbia and Yukon Aid Society (London, UK). The biography was never published but the materials came into the custody of the British Columbia and Yukon Aid Church Society. They have been subsequently donated to the Archives of the Ecclesiastical Province of British Columbia upon the Society's dissolution (1958) and sent to Vancouver. Cyril Williams, former archivist at the Anglican Theological College, transcribed some of the diaries. Some of the records remained in the custody of the Bishop of Caledonia and the Bishop of Yukon.
