<bioghist encodinganalog="3.2.2"><p>The Fleetwood Community Association was incorporated as a society on April 13th, 1923. Its object, as stated in its Constitution, is &quot;to deal with community business, and to provide recreation for members.&quot; Its first project was to provide a venue for the community to gather, in pursuit of either object. The Fleetwood Community Hall was built with volunteer labour, donated materials, and cash raised through community dances. It opened in 1933. Maintenance, improvement, and administration of the Hall account for much of the day-to-day work of the Association. It is rented to a variety of community groups and individuals, for meetings, dances, parties, bazaars, and fund-raising events. In the early 1960s, the cost of running the Hall exceeded revenues generated, and the Association was faced with bankruptcy. However, donations from the community made it unnecessary to sell or lease the building. By 1971 the Association was fiscally sound, and undertook renovation of the community hall. In 1973, 350 people attended the Association&#039;s fiftieth anniversary celebrations. The Fleetwood Community Association, through its regular bingo evenings, has also raised funds for a variety of Surrey charitable organizations, including the Surrey Memorial Hospital. It functions as an effective advocate for the community with municipal government, and has campaigned for advantageous zoning designations and local improvements for Fleetwood.</p></bioghist> <scopecontent encodinganalog="3.3.1"><p>The fonds consists of twelve series determined by record type, as follows: Constitution and by-laws; Annual Reports; Minutes; Correspondence; Membership Lists; Legal Records; Bookings Calendars; Subject Files; Building Plans; Financial Records; Publication; Scrapbooks and newspaper clippings.
