E.W. Beckett was born in Quebec and came to Maple Ridge, B.C., in 1895, where he started a small brickyard. He was municipal clerk for Maple Ridge from 1895 to 1912, when he became Crown Timber Agent at New Westminster. During the years 1925 to 1929, he was the Returning Officer for the Municipality of Maple Ridge.

The fonds consists of business correspondence and receipts of Beckett acting as Crown Timber Agent at New Westminster. Fonds includes records pertaining to the estates of Helena Kirby and Origen S.S. Martin.
