A.E. Planta, son of J.P. Planta, was born in Australia and emigrated to B.C. with his family in 1879. He established an insurance and real estate business in Nanaimo, and held office as alderman, Mayor (1906-1910), school trustee, and Senator. He married Laura Gordon in 1890 and the couple had several children.

The fonds consists of business correspondence (1903-1908), Fire Insurance applications and policy reports (1908-1909), and a receipt book (1911).
