Valentine, E.H.

Biographical history

A native of King's Heath, Worcestershire, Edward Harold Valentine came to B.C. in 1913. After serving as an accountant for a Vancouver firm of liquor importers, he joined the 72nd Seaforth Highlanders, later transferring to the 3rd Division train C.A.S.C. Following his discharge in 1916 following an accident and illness, he joined the District of North Vancouver Engineering Department. In 1920 he was appointed assistant to the District Engineer, and became relief officer for the City and District from 1933-1936. He was also superintendent of works for the City and District from 1936-1944, and supervised the operation of Grouse Mountain Chalet from 1938 to 1941. He married Ann Hunter Thompson in 1921 and they had one daughter, Juanita.
