Cyril Eddowes Halsey Williams was Assistant Archivist (1960-1973) and Archivist (1973-1980) of the Ecclesiastical Province of British Columbia housed at the Anglican Theological College, which became the Vancouver School of Theology in 1971 (VST). Minister of the Anglican church with postings in Mayo, Diocese of Yukon, Merritt and Lytton, Diocese of Cariboo, he was made an honorary canon by Bishop J. Snowden of Cariboo in 1975. He suffered a devastating stroke in 1952, which made further parish work impossible. C.E.H. Williams was a dedicated researcher who amassed a great variety of material from and about the Church and used the material to write articles and histories on church subjects. With the assistance of a Canada Council grant, C.E.H. Williams transcribed the 1839-1861 diaries of George Bishop Hills, using this information in his unpublished biography of Bishop Hills, entitled " Christian Pioneer and Evangelist". The writing of the Bishop Hill's biography along with the transcription of Bishop's diaries took him eleven years. In 1991, in collaboration with Pixie McGeachie, C.E.H. Williams published a biography of the Reverend Richard Small entitled "Archdeacon on Horseback: Richard Small, 1849-1909". Richard Small had served in the same Lytton area where later Canon Williams himself had worked. Following his retirement in 1979, Canon Williams remained active in historical and archival circles despite limitations to his mobility. He died on September 13, 1992. He was predeceased by his wife in 1975 and is survived by two sons, Norman and Eric.
