        History

        The Creston and District Women's Institute was incorporated in 1915 in the West Kootenay Valley District. The first directors of the Institute were Mrs. H.B. Downs, Mrs. E.I. Henderson, Mrs. B.C. Forrester, Mrs. McKelvey, and Mrs. Maxwell. The Institute changed its name to the Creston Women's Institute in 1952. In 1988, it amalgamated with the Young Women's Institute to form the Creston Young Women's Institute.
